A 31-year-old man was indicted Monday in the rape and “violent” killing of a sailor who worked at the Pentagon in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations and was found dead in her apartment in December, authorities in northern Virginia said.

Rodney Eric Smith, 31, is facing charges of first-degree murder, forcible sodomy, robbery and grand larceny in connection with the death of Yeoman 2nd Class (SW/AW) Juantissa Hill.

Hill, 24, of Detroit, suffered a “violent death” on Dec. 2, but the exact cause was not publicly disclosed by police in Alexandria, Va.

Alexandria police declined to provide any details of Smith’s connection to Hill and the circumstances of her death. Smith is currently incarcerated in another state and will be extradited to Virginia to face the charges later this year, according to a police statement.

At the Pentagon, Hill did secretarial work such as preparing letters from Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead to the Office of Secretary of Defense, members of Congress and foreign dignitaries.
