2nd Tanks Marine dies in Anbar accident

Officials are investigating the “nonhostile” death Tuesday of a North Carolina-based Marine in Iraq’s Anbar province, the Corps reported Wednesday.

Lance Cpl. Patrick A. Malone, 21, of Ocala, Fla., was an antitank missileman with 2nd Tank Battalion, which is based at Camp Lejeune, according to a news release from the 2nd Marine Division. It’s unclear what happened at the time of this death.

Malone, who joined the Corps in September 2007, deployed to Iraq in October, the release says. It was his first tour.

No other information was immediately available.
