320 Okla. soldiers return to home state

LAWTON, Okla. — Her brother and members of his unit were scheduled to arrive back in Oklahoma about 6 p.m. after a lengthy deployment to Iraq but even a 90-minute delay couldn’t bring Lori Fish down.

“He came back over the summer for 18 days of leave. But it wasn’t the same,” Fish said Saturday of her brother, Sgt. Donovan Fish. “We’ve all been roughing it without him.”

Donovan Fish was among 320 soldiers from the Charlie Battery, 1st Battalion, 17th Field Artillery and the 69th Forward Support Company to return home Saturday after 15 months overseas.

Their flight, which was scheduled to land about 6 p.m., came in about 7:30 p.m.

Earlier, families and friends packed the bleachers at the Goldner Gym around 4:30 p.m. waiting for soldiers from the 69th Forward Support Company to be dismissed.
