Long story short ..... A China National Aviation Corporation DC3 was bombed by a Japanese air raid while on the ground in Suifu, China. Badly damaged, but mostly intact, except for the stbd wing, she was moved to a nearby field and covered in camo until a way out could be devised.

CNAC took the wing off a DC2 they had in reserve in Hong Kong, knowing it would bolt on. They slung it beneath another DC2 and flew it to Suifu, effected the bolt-on, and flew that puppy out, aerodynamics be damned!

The absence of lawyers. The good old days. A little luck.

In 1967 I got on a DC3 in Oklahoma on the way to pick up a Bonanza V model with my dad. We flew that plane back to California, and when we got home the list of lethal problems was long. How we ever made it back was a miracle. We took our chances and got lucky. And it was an experience of a lifetime.

I love hearing about things like this. Stories that would be lost forever in history, like so many others.
