Court-martial in gang beating to begin Tuesday

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany — The court-martial of Army Staff Sgt. Alre Hudson is expected to get under way Tuesday morning. Hudson’s charges stem from the July 2005 gang beating death of Sgt. Juwan Johnson.

The court-martial was scheduled to begin Monday, but the morning was spent dealing with pretrial motions. Hudson faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, violating the Army policy on hazing and conspiring to violate the Army policy on hazing.

Hudson has opted to have a jury of officers and enlisted soldiers determine his fate. If found guilty on all charges, Hudson could be sentenced to 14 years in confinement.
