F-15E Strike Eagle pilots and weapons systems officers are training on upgraded simulators.

The 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home Air Force, Idaho is the first F-15E unit to get the new Mission Training Center, said the prime contractor for the project, Boeing, on Monday.

The Strike Eagle wings at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., and RAF Lakenheath, England will follow shortly thereafter. By the end of 2008, Mountain Home and Seymour Johnson will have four fighter simulators and Lakenheath two.

The new Mission Training Centers are supposed to add to the capability of the wings’ existing medium-fidelity Manned Combat Station simulators.

The new Mission Training Center provides two high-fidelity, two-seat F-15E simulators with a 360-degree visual system, a virtual battle space and instructor/operator consoles.

Each simulator can be operated individually or linked to provide two- or four-ship training scenarios within the center. The simulators also can be linked locally with two medium-fidelity F-15E Manned Combat Stations to allow local four-ship training.

uhc comment: The F-15E simulators are a bargain at $45,000,000 --> http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0032-3195(199224%2F199324)107%3A4%3C727%3ADDA%3E2.0.CO%3B2-8

'Ummmm' he says scratching his head, 'I thought we were getting rid of F-15s.'
