The office of Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., is investigating a missing computer that could expose some active and retired Air Force personnel to possible identity theft.

Authorities at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., said the military records of thousands of individuals are on an Air Force Band member’s missing laptop computer. It was discovered missing in mid-November. An Air Force spokesman said it’s unclear why the band member had such detailed information on so many service members dating back almost 50 years.

Maj. David Malakoff, a base spokesman, declined to say if the Air Force will provide credit monitoring for personnel whose identification could be at risk. He recommends those affected should contact Air Force legal authorities for guidance.

So far, many questions remain unanswered two months later.
