340 Wis. guardsmen set to leave for Iraq

MADISON, Wis. — About 340 members of Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing will leave Sunday and Monday for a two-month rotation in Iraq.

About 300 of the Madison-based unit will leave Sunday night from Dane County Regional Airport, according to the National Guard. They represent operations, logistics and aircraft maintenance and include F-16 pilots and crew chiefs, intelligence, life support, supply, munitions, avionics, engine, hydraulics and other personnel.

Another 30 to 40 will leave Monday night, according to Lt. Col. Brian Gray.

The unit provides air support and other combat capabilities to ground forces.

They will join about 40 other members already deployed to the region who are serving 60- to 120-day tours.
