I really need an old-fashioned picture thread tonight.

1. I'd also like to mention Randi worked Kerry
into a joke about Don Sherwood (R)-Disgraced. The reason he beat up his young girlfriend was that "she thought John Kerry was cute."

23. I was there
First time I met him, I was right in the front row and he walked up on stage and I was holding the JohnKerry.com sign and he immediatedly gave me a thumbs up and his awesome smile. He had to reach over me to shake hands and I ended up leaning on his chest, right in the tie. :loveya:

It was my first ever political rally, I do have video from it, but have no idea how to put it on the internet. It was the biggest turnout for any candidate that came here. My son came and could not attend because there was absolutely no place to park, unless he wanted to walk a half a mile.

19. Kids like JK, don't they?
I haven't seen any photos of them pulling away from him or looking scared or annoyed. Of course, it helps that he has a gentle, kind face, instead of clownish grimaces that would cause any child to have nightmares.

I love this photo--I can see the daddy in him. That's a look you can't fabricate for a photo op.

*sigh* They need a "warm fuzzies" emoticon. :)

they of course can't fully understand what is going on. but little things like the hands touching each other and what they are looking and pointing and smiling at.

that one pic with Kerry holding up the baby with the veteran in the background shows the baby and Kerry giving each other similar big open mouth smiles.

got Capt John Powers (:loveya:) to laugh by telling him semi-naughty things at Take Back America. It was all for a good cause though. I would love to have a Congressman Powers some day. :loveya: And No, it's not a Mrs. Robinson thing. It's political lust.

I have it on good authority that hardly anything naughty was said in Manchester.

13. That nice lady next to the Senator was at the Nashua dinner as well
She was very nice. I believe she was the source of the health care sticker that the Senator was wearing, that somehow got transferred during a hug to another member of the group. (Okay Levenson K, that's your story to tell. Trading stickers with a sitting Senator, how coy.)

We saw lots of people in NH that were famous to political junkies and C-Span devotees. (The whole geeky lot of us.) Ahm, Anre Arneson anyone? NH Dem politics is a small world and you see these folks over and over and over. It's amazing how much power they have over the future of the country, when you stop to think about it.

I was just thinking a few days ago about pointing out that it had been awhile since anyone had done a good picture thread and requesting one. Did you know that the pic threads and the rather lascivious commentary by certain members of this group were one of the main reasons I went ahead and donated to DU? You all were so entertaining, I just HAD to get acquainted with you!

Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 09:01 PM by TayTay
Wow, what a difference a year makes.

That was a beautiful day. That was also one very happy Senator that day. I sort of think of it as a turning point for me. After this event, there were more and more smiles that started to come up. Now that's really nice.

Oh and remember trying to go up and talk to Cam Kerry, only we couldn't interrupt him because he was talking to the woman with the huge election sign thingee strapped to her shoulders?

Hey, the person with the thumbs up was wearing almost exactly the same outfit that night we had a few cold ones together. Gee.

33. How could I forget?
Edited on Fri Oct-20-06 10:14 PM by whometense

That was a wonderful day - and the first time I heard Deval patrick speak.
By the way, did you know that Deval's father was Pat Patrick, a fairly well-known free jazz sax player?

Pat Patrick, like John Gilmore, spent virtually his entire career with Sun Ra's Arkestra, leading to him being somewhat underrated. Patrick had a particularly appealing sound on baritone and, although he did not lead any record sessions of his own, he was one of the better baritonists of the 1950s and '60s. As a child he studied piano, drums, and trumpet before switching to saxophones. At Du Sable High School in Chicago he first met John Gilmore. Patrick did record with John Coltrane (Africa Brass), play briefly with Duke Ellington, was a member of a little-known version of Thelonious Monk's quartet (1970), and in 1974 he recorded with the Jazz Composer's Orchestra. But otherwise, Pat Patrick from 1954 on and off until his death was closely associated with Sun Ra, where he was a reliable sideman.

42. Marvin is JK's "Chief of Stuff"
a.k.a. his body man. He basically follows JK around, carrying his stuff and getting him what he needs (food, etc.). I think all of the presidential candidates had body men and Marvin is still employed by JK. Marvin is like 6' 8" - he met JK while he was working in a windsurfing shop. (Is it sad that I know that?)

I've never met him, but quite a few here have.

This was when Kerry was featured on the cover of American Windsurfing magazine, in 1997 I think. (Edit to add: the other guy in the pic was the author of the article.)

How the hell could the Democrats allow Kerry's athleticism to be used against him in 2004? (I know. Spineless f***ing so-called "liberal" pundits on the MSM. Bastids.)
