"No matter what happens election day, Democrats are in for a wild ride in 2007"

This article isn't directly about Senator Kerry, but I feel he has a very real stake in the outcome of these elections. I have personally felt this tug of war within the party for awhile. For progressives, there is more at risk than just gaining majorities in Congress.

http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/2846/

From President Bill Clinton’s embrace of corporate-written trade deals that crushed the party’s working-class base to congressional Democrats’ complicity in the Iraq War and rejection of the growing anti-war movement, Democratic Party elites have gotten used to kicking the party base in the face.

The situation is ready to explode.

It goes without saying that a Democratic victory in 2006 would be much better for progressives and the country as a whole. The fights and problems that will come with a win are the enviable troubles of political riches, rather than political poverty. But progressives must not be tricked by the usual Democratic Party propaganda that promises a utopia after the election. No matter what the outcome on November 7, a new fight begins on November 8.

2. Far from over!
From a NYT article about conservative Dems posted in GD-P:

The centrist movement was embodied by former President Bill Clinton, who rose to prominence through the Democratic Leadership Council, which embraced a so-called third way of politics and eschewed what it saw as outdated liberalism.

Yet since Mr. Clinton left office, Democrats have seemed to drift back in the direction of their liberal identity, nominating two presidential contenders who were seen as less committed to the moderate cause.

What it doesn't say is Gore won the popular election and the Repubs pulled every dirty trick in the book in 2004 to pull the election for Bush.

I also posted a Paul Krugman commentary about not playing "nice" in GD-P.

How did America find itself stuck in a GOP swamp of corruption? Rubber stamp Republicans! It's party first, just ask the media's favorite maverick and so-called moderate Republican, McCain!

Democrats should never compromise against their better judgment. If they do, watch the Bush folly continue!

This is far from over!
