5. Do you favor a withdrawal of all United States military from Iraq within the next six months? (Democrats Only)
Yes 64%
No 9%
Undecided 27%

Hmmm -- maybe those GOPers ought to sign Kerry's petition. This poll at the link also contains '08 presidential politics (Edwards is ahead), but that interests me less than so many Republicans wanting troops OUT of Iraq even faster than Kerry's plan (and maybe even more would favor his plan which is a timetable one year from now). So why aren't the troops leaving? And why are GOP candidates thinking being for the surge is such a great idea?

1. Because they want that power for themselves
if they ever occupy the White House. They believe their own lies now and believe that the world is so dangerous that we need a doctrine of pre-emptive war and the power of the President to declare when a nation deserves to be pre-emptively attacked. The men running for President in the GOP believe in the power to go to war, stay at war and use 'any means necessary' to pursue a war policy, even if it is failing. They have fallen into this deep abyss and can't get out.

This poison courses through the GOP. They can't get rid of it. They have built their foundation on it. They will live, and die, on it. Only a series of election failures and repudiation of this policy at the ballot box will rid them of it and that might take decade.
