Read an excerpt from John and Teresa's book on johnkerry.com
Actually -- it was a pretty gripping excerpt, about something I knew nothing of. It really is about individuals who have done things for the environment.

Check it out and comment!

1. I really can't wait to get that book
This and the other exerpt from the home page of JohnKerry.com on Cape Cod women who did a phenomenal job putting together information to explain why their breast cancer rate was so high - tying it to the environment was incredible.

I love the Al Gore endorsement as well.

3. it's a book thing. they wouldn't understand.
While the Kerrys' new call to environmental action is not exactly light reading compared to, say, 'The Wit and Wisdom of Anna Nicole' or 'Britney's Close Shave Coloring Book', it's a lot more uplifting than 'Favorite Neocons We Have Known and Loved' and a lot more inspiring than 'Coultergeist Explains It All For You'. I give it two ink-stained thumbs up.

4. Very cool. JK has even used one of our favorite "Kerry words" in the book!
Here's a passage from the book that is featured at jk.com.

It was a series of stunning :) discoveries. These women who had decided just three years earlier to talk over coffee about tackling a problem that had never been tackled—none of whom, remember, were trained scientists—were now helping to bring about some of the earliest evidence to suggest that the environment could, in fact, play a role in a woman getting breast cancer.

It's also nice to see (for me any way) that the book features Rick Dove, the River Keeper from down Wilmington, NC way. http://blog.johnkerry.com/2007/03/tell_your_story_about_this_mom.html

I can't wait to it hits the bookstore!

5. Did you already know about Dove?
I also and really psyched to get this book. It seems a very Kerry approach of telling the truth on the magnitude of the problem, but focusing on people who have tackeled problems and had some success. This should be a really uplifting book to read.

I have read part of the Collapse book by Jared Diamond that Kerry recommended. It is fascinating. It reminded me of Kerry because in explaining each problem, he avoids the easy answer or the temptation to make demons.

6. Yes, I did know about him already.
He pretty much introduced the concept of Waterkeepers to NC more than 12 years ago. We now have a Coastalkeeper here in my area (an acquaintance of mine) so the program has really spread throughout the state. (There are River and Waterkeepers in other states as well, of course.) Here is the NC group's website in case anyone is interested. http://www.riverlaw.us/homepage.html
