"Too Liberal and Secular"
A week ago David Brooks characterized the Democrats, which Dean attracts as "too liberal and secular," not what our party needs. Liberal and secular. What does it mean?
Dean often makes some appeal to evangelicals in his recent speeches. Of course, he is not an evangelical, but he is a Christian. Most liberal Christians do not reference their faith unless they are asked about. The emphasis is more on living the faith than preaching about it.
Towards the end of his presidential campaign, he started talking more about his faith. I don't think it was good for him politically, but I think he was honest about it. Dean made some comments about the staying power of Jesus' message. But what was so damning (to the press, not God) was that he said, in terms much more specific and scientific than in Kerry's gay marriage response in the third debate, that God made gay people.
I'm sorry I don't know where I'm going with this. I just am fed up with the fundies controlling Christianity and the White House. Personally, I believe Jesus is more accepting of kinds of people than the fundies make him out to be.

2. David Brooks is a windbag.
I'm tired of his RW mantras already. PBS just employs him and Carlson Tucker to say they have space for conservatives.

3. Brooks is an asshole
he always starts out some shit as if he is on the side of the liberals or at least reasonable but he always ends off making a point in favor of right wingers.

4. The idiocy of Brooks comments are that there are other religious people
who are Dems - Muslims, Hindus and Jews, for example - so he is not just attacking Christian Democrats. I think people forget that our party is inclusive of everyone, including devout religious people of many different faiths.

5. yes and
where does he get off telling Democrats what's good for our party anyway? Who put him in charge? I'd rather to the opposite of what they advise.
:spank:

6. Yes there are some very religious Democrats
who are not Christian. I remember reading this odd Cal Thomas Dean-bashing piece wherein Thomas indirectly accused Dean for not being a true Christian because he married a Jew and his children are Jewish. That's so sad to me because it underlines the myth that a candidate HAS TO be Christian.

8. Cal Thomas is a rabid homophobe.
He was on with Bill Moyers defending "Christian" homophobia with Biblical fundamentalism. Good ol' Bill was going good against him as a liberal Christian, love your neighbor sort.

12. Not worth it, trust me!
I've tried it before. I stepped on some bullies toes who teased me. The thrill lasts about two seconds than the mean people get even meaner. It's pointless. Always non-violence.

13. In reality, I'd never kick someone's ass
It's not in my nature. Fantasizing about it, however, is a different story.

15. Cal Thomas
is one of those miserable, hateful little men that deserve their own special place in hell. In fact, that's what their lives must be already--can you just imagine living like that, so full of venom?

18. I am a half Episcopalian and we ARE NOT
born to rule the USA. Then again, I will again remind you that while Poppy and Barb are Episcopalians, Dubya is an evangelical United Methodist. Then again Dean is a former Episcopalian, too. Personally, I wish the white Christian lock on power would disolve.
