2. Great post and thanks for posting here - looks like we need to watch out for Dr Borjas

I left a comment.

Here's a link to the Lou Dobbs/Fox News allied immigration economics professor's biography. For insight, read the NYT article that is less positive than the bio suggests. (Though neither fair or PC, he left Cuba in 1962 as a 12 year old. I doubt he agrees with teh Senator - that we have had a "wrongheaded policy" for 50 years.)

(After I wrote the response on wljk, I found that he signed a letter with other economists against Kerry's 2004 economic plan for Bush/Cheney -http://www.nationalreview.com/nrof_comment/release_bc04_economists.html)

3. Illogical view on medicaid by Borjas
In S-CHIP article:

"Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., remarks that without SCHIP, "So help me, children will die, and some will end up with permanent disabilities." Yet there is no evidence that SCHIP saves more children's lives than efforts to improve prenatal care, for example. So how can Sen. Kerry be adamant about maintaining it?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, declares that Bush's veto would prevent 10 million children from obtaining any health care at all. Yet Harvard economist George Borjas found that when Congress cut noncitizen immigrants from the Medicaid rolls in 1996, so many of them subsequently sought jobs with health benefits that insurance levels among noncitizen immigrants actually increased. Why would SCHIP families, who are far wealthier, fare worse?"

Borjas is from all I can find an immigrant who thinks he added to the country unlike the current riff raff. He is liked by libertarians.

8. Thank you both - it was just google!
I'm less concerned than when I saw the post. This guy's work seems to be mostly on Libertarian sites, which suggests that the poster likely never voted for Kerry - though voting for Bush, because Kerry owns too much Microsoft would be mindboggling. (His study that she referenced is on his web site - and it is stupid. It is not addressing whether the economy as a whole is better, but the impact on Amercian technical workers' pay if foreign born workers are allowed or not - which is kind of obvious - in the short term at least.)

4. Thanks! It's a great comment!
And my puzzlement over the Borjas guy is part of why I posted here. He seems obsessed with JK, and I was curious to see if you Mass people had heard of him, or how you reacted to his weirdness.
