So cute I can hardly stand it. (An OT diversion from politics)
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 03:24 PM by Island Blue
My office recently moved to a new location (with two ponds on the campus) and we suddenly have a plethora of baby Canada Geese. (awwwwww.) These little guys hatched a day or so ago. I photographed these this morning before work.

I call the one in the front Lt. Kerry because he's obviously a born leader.

Awwwww.

I know this is way off topic, but they were too cute not to share. Hope you guys don't mind.

Edited to add more cuteness.

3. I'm surprised you got so close - or you have a great zoom?
Last week I was driving past a pond where my mom had thought she had seen a nest on top of an old beaver or muskrat house. We were driving by slowly and saw the feathers on top, probably a cozy nest, when I looked in front of my car and mommy and daddy goose were running toward the car, bills open, hissing, and spreading wings. I steered that car around them and drove away fast!!

Great photos. :)

4. Camera phone maybe?
I took lots of close-up pictures of my cats and the camera phone was such that they didn't recognize it as a camera; either the flash was low or the shape was unexpected.

6. There was some hissing,
but these geese seem to be used to people - one goose (not this mom) layed her eggs on a little grassy island in the parking lot in front of the court house. Those babies hatched on Earth Day. :)

Oh, and to answer your other question, yes it was a long lens.

9. I love the little nonconformist
The little one in the front. There always has to be one! They're all so cute. I need to go on a springtime baby animal tour.

11. OMG, cute attack
Those are ADORABLE.

Probably one of the cutest things that ever happened to me was last Mother's Day (how appropriate) when I was driving down a street on campus and had to come to a halt because a momma geese, followed by about five babies in a line, decided to waddle across the street. Another car was coming from the opposite direction and we had to sit there for about a minute while the little family made its way across. I about had a death from cute overload. Thanks for sharing these pics!
