1. Darn, sorry I missed it!
Thanks for posting though. If anyone spies a link on the CSPAN site later, please post here?

2. He talked against both of the
Kyl amendments and they both failed. Both of them having to do with Palestine, which JK is very up to date on. In fact I thought I heard Kyl say he was going to withdraw one, but not sure if he did, the votes are not up on the Senate site yet.

Here is the http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=6_12">link for today's proceedings in the Senate.

4. The Kyl amendments on money to Egypt being

linked to work on destroying Gaza smuggling tunnels and the one to have the SoS report that no reconstruction money goes to Hamas were defeated. Feingold voted for both - probably to kill the bill itself. The other one Kerry spoke of may be withdrawn if State Department people send him a letter that the story he based it on is not true.

5. Kyl withdrew the amendment on resettling people from Gaza
He got the letter refuting the wingnut story.

So - on the foreign policy amendments, it is Kerry 4 Kyl 0.

6. LOL!
I loved JK saying that amendment was "a solution in search of a problem"!!!! Kyl knew he was licked right then. Idiot. :-)

7. What was startling was that he
took a story that was fluttering around in wingnut circles - which he got from several constituents and he then wrote a bill to counter it without having a staffer check to see if it had any merit. I seriously doubt that a Democratic Senator would take something from a source like that and just run with it.

The odd thing was that after Kerry spoke, he corrected Kerry on Kerry's interpretation of his bill - even while admitting that Kerry's interpretation could be valid, though it was not what he meant. (Kerry assumed that it meant what it said - that no money could be used to help a refugee who escaped from Hamas controlled Gaza and tried to come here. Given that no one is trying to mass settle them here (wingnuts aside), Kerry's interpretation was in fact the ONLY case where it would apply.)
