Yes, love is a very good word for how I feel: To me, loving someone includes needing them--and we certainly need a leader like John Kerry. I'm glad he is able to do as much as he is, given that his influence is limited to being a U.S.Senator in a minority party. But I also think that the election empowered him and the other Democratic Senators and Congresspersons to get tough and speak out. They realize how many of us are out here believing in them and hoping they will fight hard for us on the Hill against the GOP and the WH agenda. During the campaign he began the fight to take our country back, and though he didn't take the WH, the fight goes on, the momentum continues. I don't think for a minute that the Dems in the Senate would be acting as tough and unified as they have been, had John Kerry not gotten the 59 million votes (at least) he did last fall.
John Kerry is the politician I had been waiting for my whole life, without really being aware of it. Ever since Bobby Kennedy was shot, there was never, for me, any politician I really could whole-heartedly believe in. Not until I discovered John Kerry in 2003. That's a long time to be cynical about politicians. I liked Clinton, and liked Gore, but--you know, you can never tell. But I looked at Kerry's life, and listened to him speaking so sincerely during the primary season, and found that yes, here was a politician who was in it for the right reasons and who I could put my trust in. So I did! :)
