The bit about the media was oh-my-god fantastic. A few minutes ago (back in the car) Ed said he had no idea that JK was going to bring that up.

I'm starting to see what may be his true advantage in 2008 - absolute fearlessness. It came to me when I heard Ed interview Ron Wyden and when I thought about all the time and energy HRC spends positioning herself. John is being utterly himself. He's lost the "coached by advisors" hesitancy.

He is simply not afraid to say whatever he is thinking (of course, he's not an idiot, so he couches his thoughts in reasonable language - though he did say "damn" :D), and there is a freedom and joyousness to him that is infectious.

Quite a different style than we hear, say, in the SFR cmte. He was great. And he's got the correct meme going: they are incompetent. They are failures. They had a veneer of competence until Katrina happened. And the Dems are getting traction, just need a bigger megaphone.

On NSA spying: "We passed a resolution to authorize force...surveillance is not force."

SS privatization: "they don't get it...that will be met with the same, you know, two hands clapping that they had last time...the main thing to do here is to not get suckered into their game and stay on ours."

I think I'm going to subscribe to all of Ed's podcasts. I really like the way he deals with his callers, and we he has guests on, he's happy to take a back seat and really listen to what they have to say.

It's so funny to think that this is the guy that the Washington 'insiders' think is all done and not a factor anymore on the national scene. He sure doesn't sound like it. I agree with Whome that he sounds more like himself lately, more likely to say what he wants to say and let the chips fall where they may. He has excellent political instincts. (He wouldn't be in that Senate seat without those good instincts.) It is just wonderful to hear him taking his own council and doing what is right. If this means that a lot of the consultants and insiders have abandoned him for other people, then that is good news indeed. He is a much better Senator and a better national voice for Democrats now and is really starting to hit his stride. (Anybody else sense a whole lot of visits around the country to help Dems campaign this year. I think all that good energy is going to be put to an outstanding use this year.)

I think my greatly esteemed taller Senator has been kicking ass and taking names lately. I love it. This is, as I recall, how he got his start in national politics and I really like seeing this. I loved reading the two articles in the BGlobe this week that indicate that respect for him is starting to come back a bit after the '04 loss. Things are looking up.

You know, I wish he could deliver that speech from last Sept again. This was the speech he gave at Brown Univ. that was amazingly hard-hitting. (JK referenced it today on the Schultz show. Great, great speech. I wish there was an audio or video of this available, sigh!) He was right in Spet and he is right now, Bush is toast, he and his admin are incompetent at everything they attempt and are corrupt to the bone. It really is all about the money with the Bushes. And I am thrilled tht JK has started to target the corrupt Rethug Congress now. Bush is not the whole of the problem, after all. The Rethugs in Congress are his enablers and should be called out in as strong a way as possible.
