He was talking about his book and how to achieve peace in general.
He talked about democracy not being just an election and about what needed to be done in Iraq. He talked about the same themes Kerry exposed in his Belfast speech about creating economic and social institutions and helping people developping their political institutions.
He also reminded people what led to the war in Iraq and what needed to be made, reminding people that it was not the military on the ground that were the problem, but the people making the strategic decisions in Washington. He said that there were certainly platoons and brigades in villages that were doing good things, but that, as long as the US and Iraqi governments would not have a policy in place to win the hearts of the Iraqis people, the insurgents would still be winning.
Really reassuring that there are people like that, particularly after I listened to George Allen on This Week (I missed Obama), trying to define himself in opposition to McCain and Bush on immigration, but unwilling to be a nativist.
