Does anyone get their meds through the county mental health system?
I am currently in a transition period in my life, meaning I am technically unemployed with no health insurance, but I work as a freelance writer. I recently moved back to Miami so I'm building up my writing contacts.
However, I am severely ADHD and I depend on Adderall (it used to be Ritalin, but Adderall is much better) and I can only get it if I pay this lame-ass psychiatrist $175 a session for a prescription.
But I may qualify, at least for the time being, to get meds through the county health system.
I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this.

1. I don't have experience with county hlth systems
but you may want to check and see if there is a free clinic in your county or a pro bono program for counseling and meds. Good luck

2. My husband does. We called an access line
and they gave us directions -- where to go, what documentation to bring. In our county, if you are unemployed you can get psych meds and treatment free.

3. Im in a similar situation. I'm getting the meds from the system.
I get a %90 discount on the services, and they've been keeping me stocked on meds with samples.

4. I do -- meds, and the rest of my mental health treatment
I don't have health insurance, so I'm relying on a public program with the city of San Francisco. I'm speculating that I'd be getting better treatment if I had complete health care coverage and access to non-public-sector doctors.

I'm seeing a non-doctor therapist and a psychiatrist who writes prescriptions separately, and between the two of them, they've been either unable or unwilling to come up with any kind of formal diagnosis (I suspect I have either severe ADHD or some kind of mild autism, but I've never been diagnosed). I have to say, I'm pretty frustrated with their intransigence on this.
