I feel my job is being threatened
by those that don't understand mental illness.

Like an idiot, I self-disclosed my bi-polar diagnosis at work so as to give my co-workers a heads up when I need a little help. I am a social worker currently pretending to be a food server at a local casino.

It went well for a brief period of time; however, now they (fellow servers) dog my heels if I am not at a table pronto when the guest is seated, even if I am with another guest, they run to management at my slightest mistake, speak horribly disrespectful to me, etc. I need this job but dread going in more each day, which adds A LOT to my anxiety.

I was sent home yesterday because I had a minor meltdown (crying) because one of the wenches, who I had asked for help two days ago so she goes to management about THAT, went to management yesterday because I DIDN'T ask for help.

My head hurts from the mixed messages I am getting.

1. have you talked to your boss?
sounds a little like you freaked them out, and now they don't know what to do. seems like management needs to hear directly from you at this point. is this a big company? do they have an HR person? it would help if they were big enough to have a written policy on this sort of thing. i would think that a casino gets all kinds of people working for them, so there might be some precedent.

good luck. peace.

2. This sounds the same as just about every job I have ever been
on, and I disclose nothing.
I think it is common on any job to get flak from all sides.
Any job requires a very thick skin. Meltdown won't help. The only thing you can do is smile and agree.
It seems or sounds phony but it's phony anyway, in that you are a social worker, but now acting as food server.
It's a paycheck. And I know it's the same with the customers at the table. They will be very rude, change their mind, complain, etc. And you just have to smile and say, oh, we will fix it for you.
It's merely a temporary inconvenience. Bear with it, til you can get back on a better job.

3. Sounds like the start of a hostile work environment to me, not to mention discrimination.
Go to your boss. Explain to him/her what's going on. Then DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT what happens to you; **don't** keep your records at work.

If your boss is satisfied with your performance, then that's where it begins and ends. You DO NOT have to put up with this on a daily basis.

Good luck to you.

4. Thanks to all who replied.
I have been to HR and, so far, I feel they have my back. They are on a point system them and have not "charged" me any points when they send me home because of a "bad" day but it is my fellow workers, one in particular, who is making things miserable for me. I did give my immediate supervisor a heads up. We'll see what happens. I feel very vulnerable right now and am keeping notes on a daily basis because I agree with the "hostile work environment" assessment. We'll see what happens, in the meantime, I'll go do my job and stay out of everyone's way the best I can.

Again, thanks.

5. Just do your job, and things will take care of themselves.
If you feel yourself losing it, have some kind of support system, or plan, to deal with it. Take a break. Call someone. DON'T let these asshats win. Also, you don't know what's going on behind the scenes -- believe me, this is the not the kind of situation HR wants to deal with or will tolerate for very long.

6. "believe me, this is the not the kind of situation HR wants to deal with or will tolerate
for very long". What? My mental illness or behavior of co-workers?
