And speaking of sunsets ...
I took this Saturday off Key Biscayne in Miami. I realize I need a new telephoto lens, as this 75-300 EOS lens tends to get a little soft when fully extended. But the one I want, a 70-200 f/4 L with a 1.4x teleconverter costs more than $800.

Does it say Canon Zoom Lens EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 II on the ring at the end?

3. That's the one
I've had mine for about six years now, since I purchased the Elan IIe. I think I need to clean it.

2. Beautiful sunset and yes, lenses can get VERY expensive :)
My Nikon D70 should arrive this week. I'd love to get this lens for it, but unfortunately, the autofocus on this lens won't work with the D70 :(

This thing is very nice :)

Perhaps I'll go with this one:

4. talk about an all purpose lens
If you're getting a nikon, you might want to check out this website before buying any lenses. www.photo.net

They have a bunch of forums, including one where only Nikon-related things are discussed. You can go on there and ask veteran Nikon users to give their feedback on certain lenses. I do that with Canon and I find it helps me decide what kind of lenses to buy when I'm torn between two different kinds.

6. That's exactly what drew me to the lens
The camera comes with a 18-70 (equivalent of a 24-105 in 35mm basically), so add the 80-400 to that and I have a pretty good range with very little gap :). When you consider that the D70 has a multiplier basically of 1.5 of the 400, that gives me the equivalent of a 600mm zoom in 35mm, which is A LOT for outdoor and wildlife stuff which is what I want to start doing :).

BUT, that lens will have to wait a long while. It's $1,000 or so, and I'm spending that on the camera, so the lens will wait a while.
