Need some help identifying a bird
Here are two pics straight from the brush again complete with branches in the wrong places.

The first one is a female northern cardinal

But what is this? I have looked all over the Internet and I just can't find this bird. I thought it was part of the cardinal family at first, then the warbler family but now I am just confused.

Thanks in advance.

Closest I could find. I start with Tufted titmouse since it vaguely reminded me of one. You'll have to check for sure though. I think you got better pics than half the sites I found. The yellow through it off though and the range is wrong, but with the weird weather the range may be changing.

Edit to add, well maybe not since the throat is wrong. But the site might be able to help you, it does have a look up feature.

3. Maybe a western kingbird (thumbing through my 'Birds of North
America' book)? Your shots are great! Here's a link to google pics.

6. Hey, you may be right
There is a lot of cattle and pasture and they tend to hang around ranches. However, the pics I have seen of the kingbird are all too skinny and I do not see that black band around the eye. But I think you are close. Thanks for the lead. It still may turn out to be true.

4. Or maybe a lighter version
of the Cedar Waxwing. http://identify.whatbird.com/obj/159/_/Cedar_Waxwing.aspx Maybe the illustrator went heavy with color.

Here's another view of a cedar waxwing that looks a lot like Maestro's:

I never would have figured that one out. From the info, it is just wintering here. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And dang what a nice photo!

Edit: Here is another photo from the outing. This one shows the red feathers on the wing and the yellow tips of the tail.

11. Nah, more a thank you
for the great pics and a very good diversion from sanding drywall. Even though you are south of me I started with one of the two winter birds I could think of. It wasn't either but I did find a new place to look up birds as I learn. I don't know much about birds at all but I do enjoy watching them. On top of all that you gave me some great photos to look at. BTW if you had up the contrast in levels and added saturation your pics would of been as bright as the ones we found. I think they over did it but then they may of pushed it to show the characteristics of the birds more.

12. Thanks.
I have a few more coming up to post, if you want to do more research. I am pretty sure they are finches or wrens, but I am not what kind. Thanks again for the kind words.

10. At first I thought they were a type of wren or finch
but they were no way near as jittery and then upon closer inspection they look quite different but size wise they are just a bit bigger. I can understand your surprise. Thanks for the comment.

16. Sure is a pretty little bird.
I should probably respond to posts more often, to let you all know how much your pictures are enjoyed and appreciated.

My little granddaughter loves sitting on my lap while I go through the photos. I'll share these with her when she gets up from her nap.

17. No problem. I love it when others enjoy them.
Lately though I feel like I'm spamming. I even have some more to post if the du photophiles don't mind. ;)
