Mine was a Sears SLR, made by Pentax, IIRC.I was 12, I guess. It was a hand-me-down from my Uncle who had just bought a new Nikon rangefinder. Thing had an awesome 50 1.4 lens.

1. Some little Kodak Brownie model...

...given to me when I was five or six.

I can still remember the chemical smell of that first roll of "Verichrome Pan" B&W film when I loaded it.

2. a polaroid land camera

wow - cost about a quarter a picture - for b&w. In the late 60's, that was a lot.

Then went to a Yashika 35mm.

Finally to a Pentax Spotmatic SLR. Kept that one for a long time.

3. Some sort of Polaroid.

I never had my own 35mm, but I did use my father's Nikon a bit. As an adult I have always used point and shoots or my current crop of DSLRs, Canon.

4. The first one I remember was a Polaroid.

I had a Kodak Instamatic for a while, but I never really got into photography seriously until three years ago. Before it was just family snapshots with a point-and-shoot.

5. Don't think I actually 'owned' a camera till I was 15 or 16

It was a Nikon SLR. It was eventually replaced by "food and rent". Fast forward..... next was Canon SLR. That one was stolen after I just bought a flash for it. Fast forward... I decided to get one of the new fangled digtial cameras. A POWERFUL :eyes: 2 meg Nikon point & shoot.

In between these I had the various cheap 35mm point & shoots. Polaroids. Stuff like that.

6. It was something I had to sell magazines subscriptions door to door to get

one of those ads you'd see on the back of comic books. It was a slim-line deal, flash on one end, view-finder on the other. I have no idea what brand it would be, I think it might have taken 110 film.

7. A Kodak Brownie was the first

Then a Kodak Hawkeye, a Duoflex, and a Pony (first 35 mm). I jumped the Kodak ship at that point and went with a Nikon F5 (first one I bought myself). I loved that F5! That got stolen and I replaced it with a cheaper Nikkormat. I upgraded a few years ago to a Nikon N70. Great camera, by the way. Then I jumped ship again and went digital with the Nikon D100. I am currently lusting after the D3.

8. Kodak Instamatic, long gone.

I still have my Grandmother's Kodak Brownie (anybody know where I can get film for it?). First real camera was a Pentex K1000 which I gave to one of my nephews to use in his HS photo class.
