How about a photo from my back deck

as the fog rolls in at night.

:hide:

I'm new to this photo taking stuff and just learning about my camera.

1. Hey, Merh, how's it goin'?
:hi: Are you settled in your new home? I like your photo -- it's hard to shoot in that low light, but this looks cool.

4. hello blue
Yes, I am settled and quite happy in my new home. thanks for all the support and for asking.

I thought the shot was cool - I have such a great view, I decided I have to try to capture it, now I need to learn what I am doing.

2. That's a striking shot
All I'd suggest would be reducing the brightness of the windows of the large building across the water. If those highlight were subdued a bit, you'd have a real gem here. And I envy the view; the view from our back deck is just our backyard.:scared:

5. Aw thanks, I was just trying to see what my camera could do -
So how do I reduce "the brightness of the windows of the large building across the water"?

And it is a great view, I am very blessed.

I tell my niece and nephew that the bay is mine and I just let others use it. They are young enough to be believe me. :silly:

7. Depends what you're using as an image editor
but if you can select just the brightest of those window highlights and adjust the brightness (better still, the curve) of the selection, you'll be able to tame them. Alternately, you might try a rectangular selection that would encompass all of the highlights on those three floors of windows, feather the selection slightly if you have the option, then apply a very little bit of blur to the selection and darken it just slightly. The key would be making very subtle adjustments, I think, because anything more will look artificial.

I'd love to see some shots of that view at other times of day, too.

10. I think I understand what you are saying
I'll have to give it a try to see how it goes, thanks for the tips.

As far as other shots of the same image, here are some I took yesterday.

3. That's great
I'm glad to see things are returning to normal for you, bit by bit. The water looks very calming.

6. thanks sandnsea
things have basically returned to normal for me, but others aren't as lucky and are still struggling.

The water is very calming, after a bad day of work, I come home and go on the back deck and don't need much else.

8. Wonderful, merh!
Saw the photos a while back at your link re: the new home construction...amazing!!

Am so glad you are out of the trailer and in your own place again!

How's your sister's place? I remember from the flood that her home took on a lot of water and damage.

Good to see you here! :hi: :loveya:
