favorites and glad it got some attention but he could of been nicer to the rest. Oh well have to have a thick skin if we are going to put them out there and we did used to beg for critiques.

8. I think your reply was
the most courteous and gentile and devastating diss I have ever seen. There ought to be an award for the most polite smack downs. JeffR a bit below posted that he appreciates helpful critiques, as we all should, but I don't see that as one.

9. Ya' did good .... and are doing great with the contest
This isn't the first time someone has 'hit' the entries. I recall one post where this 'Raw Fish' DUer basically said that ALL the entries were crap... "fair at best". And there have been times that people have singled out one photo for praise and dumped on the rest.

Do you know why the contests were taken out of the Lounge and moved to GD?

Don't take it too personally. It will happen once in awhile. It'd be nice to see some constructive critiques being made but it's hard enough to get a "Roundtable Tread" going here. Sorry it was my snap that got singled out.

:hi:

11. And a fine "snap" it is...
Worth of any and all praise it might recieve.

But don't nobody mess with the other fine "Main Street" photos by tryin' to pass them off as "pedestrian" :-)

12. We all know it was you
F. Gordon, we all know that you just made up the name milord last week to talk up your entry in hopes of receiving all of the fame and glory that comes with a coveted DU photo group win.:)

BTW, what's wrong with 33 posts???:)

7. Well
I like criticism.

Don't agree with the critique, but it's nice to see some animosity in the comments. As a doofus behind a lens, I could benefit from more animosity. Maybe way more.

I'm not really bothered by his comments. I know that the photo I submitted was mediocre, at best, on a technical level. Yet it's always been one of my personal favorites of my stuff for the way it captures the dust & haze and that "we'll take whatever excitement we can get down here" attitude.

14. I love that photo
I voted for it. I love that you thought to take the picture. It is so typically Alabama, and other southern states. It's the irony of the 'world's largest sock outlet' in a dumpy little store with an even dumpier sign, and who knows, they actually could be the world's largest sock outlet because you never know what you're going to find in one of those southern shops.

18. Thanks
I think it was Scottsboro, but I'm not sure. It's the first town you hit when you cross the Tennessee River nearby.

16. This month has been quite "educational"...
When the "urban" theme was announced, I thought of a whole series of "urban landscapes" I'd shot around Seattle. I figured that one of them would do quite nicely...but I really didn't want to post an "in-town" equivalent of the many natural landscape shots I post month after month (after month after month after...). I wanted something that conveyed the edginess and movement of urban life. Something that looked as unlike my usual work as I could get.

I found it in Cruisin' Main Street. A shot that had one off-center point in focus, and everything else a blur. A shot that had to be looked at carefully to make sense. A shot that evoked motion and dynamics. One that was definitely not like anything I'd posted here before. When I picked it, I had no doubt that I was making the daring, but right, choice.

Said "right choice" finished dead last overall.

That settles it...no matter what the topic next month, I'm submitting an entry of a waterfall. Or a sunset.

19. I've considered doing that
Just find any stretch of a way to have a cat inside the central theme.

My favorite of these finals is dead last. I also think the order which the photos are posted has a significant effect on the voting, but there's no way around that.

20. Just so ya know
I put them on a list by the number of votes they got in the prelims (most to least) and then used the random tool to get the final order

just wanted you to know how it was done.

I must admit I'm rather looking forward to 8:00 PM tonight.
