Some of my favorite photos...new to photo group! (DU member since 03)
Hi, I just found the photo group and I'm an avid photographer, in fact I never leave home without my camera. (plus about 2 others always in the car!)

I have shitty luck inserting photo's into forums, so hopefully, these will turn out - otherwise view my sets on www.flickr.com/photos/axollot - I've not added anything new for about a week, but have some great shots that will be added soon. So please comment and check back often!

Cheers
Sandy

Southern Home b/w

March moon rising (looks like a garden gazing bulb held by a pine needle hand - at least to me!)

1. Another fav....
Sorry if they're a bit large.

I spy a little fly.....

Actually, didn't notice the fly at all until I had uploaded it. All photos are unedited, with the exception of some cropping. If edited beyond that, I notate. Thanks for looking!

4. Thank you!
Already love jumping on DU and having wonderful discussions, but it's obvious, I do tend to lurk LoL - I have under 300 posts in 6 years!

I knew there were other, smaller groups on DU, but wasn't aware (didn't bother to check, really) of the more hobby/interests groups. Love reading the breaking news and general disscusion forums.

If any of you have a flickr.com a/c (your yahoo id is all you need) I would love to see your photos, so inviting everyone to add a link to your photos there. I'm great at adding comments to other peoples photos and welcome them on mine too!

Cheers
Sandy

3. Welcome to our little group, Axollot...

I think you'll like it here. I especially like your photo of the southern home.

By the way, my new son-in-law is from Australia, too ... Perth. We love his accent, and he's such a very nice guy. Are all Australians so cool? :)

5. Are all Aussies cool?
For the most part yes, they are (still have your wack-jobs but the religious nuts are few and far in between unlike here). Quality of life there is wonderful and that makes people have a sunnier outlook on life. (6 weeks holiday a year is also helpful - Aussies aren't worked to the bone like here, plus we have universal health care, it's not perfect but beats NO insurance!)

I'm an Aussie/American born in the US but lived most of my life in OZ and have been back in the US nearly 9 years now. We lived on the East Coast of Australia, in fact I worked for Billabong clothing for many years which is located in Burliegh Heads, Queensland - your son-in-law would have heard of it. Both of my sons were born and raised in OZ, the eldest is 18, his brother from the same marriage is 14 - and I have a 4 yr old daughter with my second hubby, she was born in the US. All of us are duel citizens. Except hubby.

The political climate here has been frightening to me - I lived under Raygun and then BOOSHit. On top of that, I'm not from the South(born in Chicago, where all my cousins etc still live, and lived in SoCa from 3rd grade - 10th) so total culture shock! Hubby is from OH.

I will say that some of the most dirt poor in the south will be the first to give you the shirt off their back. The fundies here drive me insane though!

Would move back home (Australia will always be home to me now) in a NY second, if it wasn't for my elderly mother and hubby's parents - it would break their heart for us to leave again!)

Cheers
Sandy

7. OK, last one for tonight...
I'm whooped! Feels like someone took a baseball bat to my entire body. I have a chronic pain disease though so this is a down moment =( Love sharing my photos though and hope others find something to enjoy too! Don't forget you can see all my posted photos at www.flickr.com/photos/axollot I'm doing walk throughs of old southern cemeteries. There is one to be found about every 3-5 miles around here.

This is FL - and yes, that's a gator in someones back yard pond - quite a large pond though!
I laid on the ground to capture pics of this marvelous reptile - had to get his attention first by taking a stick and slapping it on the water. He is about 6 foot tip to tail The chain link fence is only about 3 foot in height and if I was standing he wouldn't have come as close or even popped his head up. (about 10 foot away)
I took these about 4 years ago with a camera that I no longer own - 3 mp canon powershot! No flash

Cheers
Sandy

11. OMG! I'd be more afraid of the moose! I was to big for my gator...
but young bull moose *will* fuck you up. Or your car, house etc. Crazy bastards! LOL. Great photo!

Severe cold would kill me! I'd be snowed in for 3 months......have to live in sub-tropical weather.

Cheers
Sandy

9. These are simply excellent!
Welcome to the last sane square foot of cyber-earth on DU!

Please keep posting. We've had a dearth of new photos being posted much recently, although what people have posted has been a treat. These are outstanding.

13. Hope you feel better soon
I had a persistent neuralgia thing happening for about 7 years, and I still get occasional and very unwelcome twinges of it. I'm sorry to hear you're going through something like this.

15. Ya, my pain is a CNS pain down my entire left side. I'm all for medicinal MJ - it works...
without overtly poisoning the body. Takes away the nausea too - extreme pain makes you want to hurl..for lack of a better word.

Cheers

10. Love the first one
I've never been to the south and pictures like this make me think of Tennessee Williams and something lurking just beneath the surface.

14. It certainly is beautiful, if not a little crazy....I have locals take me to ...
the private family cemeteries or the small 2-3 family ones. Scary part is I've only seen about 6 *main* faily names for this area. These names go from the present - back to the early 1800's. Out right told a friend of mine one day, jokingly, that they were some inbreed mother-fuckers (pardon). Everyone is related twice around here and it's kinda weird....

Cheers
Sandy
(who...loves civil war era *everything* and there is tons of that around here too. Will upload some in the next couple of days!)
