I took a bike ride along the rain swollen and just under flood stage Mississippi river front in Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa tonight;

But the power of the water is so awesome, floods are devastating. I lived through one in Northern Ohio, the Vermilion River had an ice jam and an entire neighborhood down the street (in a valley) was underwater in the middle of January. The Army Corps of Engineers redesigned the jetty system at the river mouth, stopped the flooding but destroyed the beaches all along the east side of Lake Erie near the town. :cry:
