Cactus Flower

I am not much of a landscape photographer; however, while taking my kids on a nature hike last weekend, I found this beautiful cactus flower in the shadows. I liked the way it turned out. The color just seems to leap out of the shadows. I like the dappled light.

1. Beautiful, and I don't think they bloom

for very long either do they? When I lived in Tucson (many decades ago, 1979?) I wanted to go out to the Organ Pipe National Monument, but didn't make it. Fortunately we did live right down the road (15 minutes) from the Saguaro National Park. Back then I only had a Pentax SLR.

And I couldn't tell you if they bloom for a long time or not. I would doubt it though.
