Into the Past

This photograph means a lot more to me than it would to anyone else (tells a story), but I thought I'd share it anyway.

1. The road less traveled
ROAD LESS TRAVELED

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference

2. Does it go "out of town"? or "back home"?
Or is it the way to San Jose?

3. Both and neither ...
The road leads into town eventually. The dirt road to the right leads to a place where I spent a lot of time as a child. The exact spot where I took the photo is where I did a 360 in my first car and somehow came out unscathed. The bridge down there has been the scene of two deaths of people close to me.

Lightning Ridge Road, aka Frog Rock Road.

This is why it's called the latter, fwiw. Natural rock on the road that someone painted to look like this a long time ago. Now various people repaint it. It's tradition.

4. I like it.
A clear way through the valley. Reminds me of the area in Michegan where my mother lives.

5. Nice
I like how the road just disappears in the background. Sorry to hear about some of the tragic memories from the bridge though.

6. It's a bad bridge ...

You can sorta see that it's at a slight angle to the road. Coming up to it from the other side, at night during the summer when the vegetation is higher on the sides especially, can be quite dangerous.

Lots of people hurt there.

We were young and "immortal" and took that road without a thought. I once went over that bridge at 100mph. Went airborne. My friends came across it while drunk.

I didn't drive so fast after that.

Anyway, thanks. I wish I'd had my better camera at the time. I just happened across the scene. I didn't even realize I was going there until I ended up there. I was with a friend who'd never been there with me, but he had family buried in a cemetery near there, and I suddenly realized where I was. The scene just presented itself, so I had to capture it. I hadn't been there in nearly 20 years.
