2. The Gorge has many 'personalities' throughout the year.

Living in the Dry-Shitties for five years, I 'escaped' to the west several times each year, often through the Gorge to Portland and Eugene. The drive through the Gorge NEVER failed to be impressive, from the frozen winter version embedded in ice after an ice storm to the bucolic or gusty summer days and the wind surfers. Awesome.

I've never been that fortunate.

BTW, those books/films were set in Forks, on the Olympic Peninsula, which looks nothing like the Columbia Gorge, although just as green.
