1. Alfredo: I just spoke to you about your other post. As I was doing that you posted this.

Every single thing I said applies to these images as well, and you are making me very happy, and also very nervous.
How the hell do you folks do these beautiful photos?
I went today to one of my National Historical Places, within walking distance even, and took nice photos.
Deleted them all.

My house is on the National Register. I might just expound on that.

Anyway, you have a fan in me.

2. thank you thank you. They are all processed in GIMP, except for the

Green Pepper image.

Most look crappy until I crop, sharpen and adjust curves. Some continue to look crappy.

I like your work a lot. You have a good eye. Love the stone path image. I'm a sucker for reoccurring patterns.

BTW, Arundhati Roy is a favorite of mine.

4. I googled GIMP - I was not going to look dumb and ask unless I HAD to.

I don't have any program except Picasa. What should I do or get? And that is a sincere question, I hope you'll answer as kind as you are with your words about my photos.
One time a woman friend of mine gathered 3 other women, and we went to a cabin, and she played us 2 hours of Arundhati talking about world issues that concerned her at the time.
it was a life peak experience for me.

6. GIMP is a very powerful tool with a moderately steep learning curve.

Photoshop is for those who have the money and time to learn all you can do with it. Photoshop Elements looks really good for most of us. GIMP is more than enough, especially if most of what you do is online. I only know of what is available for the Mac. If you are on Windows, there might be some other offerings that are inexpensive, but useful. All I listed above are for all platforms.

I'm going to try the Picasa beta today.

7. I'm using the Picasa Beta on my Mac/laptop and Picasa 3

on my reg PCs.
Please send me an IM and tell me what you think, esp. the comparisons. I think Picasa is probably very elementary, but I think it works just fine for me.
I have Photoshop, but can't use it for photos. Will look into all of this later in the year.

8. Open up photoshop and start playing. Explore the filters. Curves

are a very good tool. OH, and RTFM.

I may not have much time to get to know Picasa, but I will in the next few days.

iPhoto has some edit tools.

9. These are all of a rare standard

but the third one is just, well....!!!!!!!!! Rename it Three Sisters at Lexington Cemetery, enter it, and let's see if it doesn't kick some contest butt. Unless, of course, you have something even better than this, but man.

10. I have some images of Henry Clay's home, and a couple churches

that are on the register. We have about 200 sites in our town. This is Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket country. We go back a piece.
