I finally made the plunge into digital
Previously I was shooting slides mostly and running them through my Nikon Coolscan. However, I haven't even been doing that for the last year or two, so I'm hoping getting a digital SLR will renew my love of photography.

I just ordered a D70 (used), which seems to be a good choice from what I've been trying to find out. I had hoped to use my old Nikon lenses, but the only one I have that will even allow meter functionality with the D70 is my 24-120mm AF-D Nikkor. So I also ordered a 18-55mm VR lens. I may keep my 24-120mm AF-D for a while and see how that works.

I'll probably keep my old FM2n. I just can't bear the thought of parting with it right now. It's the 3rd Nikon I've owned after a F and a FM.

1. Congratulations to you. Between the photogroup, and the ease of using digital
photography, I expect to see your photos soon and look forward to it.
Everything that you spelled out I understood and I hope to grow into the numbers, letters and abbreviations so we can communicate in the future as well.
The beauty of this forum, among other things, is the welcome it gave an amateur like myself

:)

2. d70 is a great camera, and don't lose
any of the lenses, you can use them on other cameras.

I almost got rid of all my film cameras, glad I did not... I now enjoy shooting b/w, dev it myself and only scan the good ones... takes all the hassle and costs of printing out of the equation

so I get Arista Pro for like 1.50 a roll and it cost maybe a buck to develop it

quite a deal

3. I got rid of all my darkroom stuff many years ago
I used to really enjoy doing it, but I'm not sure I'll ever do that again, although it would be pretty easy just to develop the film and scan the negatives. I do still love B&W film.

5. The D70 is a great choice
Do not get rid of the 24-120 lens!

I kept my N70 body when I bought the D100, but haven't used it since. But, You never know when you're going to need a film camera.

6. I just found a reason to keep my 24-120mm
I just read that the latest 2 Nikons have full frame(36x24mm) sensors. In a few years when the price on the used market gets down around $300 or so for a D700, I'll upgrade the D70. The only downside is this will make DX lenses pretty much obsolete, so I guess I'll have to make do with the 18-55mm for now. This is not a big deal as I rarely shoot with long lenses and much prefer the shorter end anyway.

I used to have a 50mm 1.4D, but I went looking for it yesterday and I must have sold it after I got the 24-120mm. I wish I still had that lens and I guess I'll have to get another.
