Poll question: My diverse GREENS - please tell me what appeals and what does not.,
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 06:40 PM by Mira
I went shooting a bit this morning, and looked through files. Everything is coming up green.

Show me please what you like, and if you're willing, tell me what's no good, as well.

I have so much to learn.

Thank you !

1. Can't decide yet...
...but, if you pick either 1 or 4, you can title it "...'til we found the Sea of Green." ;-)

(BTW, 2 and 7 look over-sharpened to me.)

2. Hmmm. I was going to name either one: Dick Cheney's fishing hole
I did read up on "...'til we found..." and I'll soften up the 2 and look at them again.
Very much appreciated that you took the time!

3. It would be hands down the cows for me, BUT
I hate those darn power lines. I mean, I hate them. Sans the power lines, wow, that is a very nice picture. One cow is even turned watching the other climb the hill. I really like that. I think the power line thing is a personal deal with me. I am struggling with whether the major focus of the picture should be green, or if it will be acceptable to the voters if say, a bird is brown and the rest of it green. That's why I took all those green bridge pics, but they didn't really thrill me much other than satisfying the green requirement.

I like the tomatoes a lot too. I think those are unripe tomatoes? I have found that vegetable pictures do okay in the contest, but I am not sure that voters love vegetable pictures as much as I do. I passed on a picture of watermelons, and peppers.

The swamp one looks cool in the roots, but I'm not all that excited about the leaves in that one. I had a lot of good green pictures with ripply water in them, but voters seem to like still water. The swamp water looks kind of cool, because it reflects, but it isn't straight.

Anyway, those are my three favorites. I'm not crazy about the fish pictures, or the other two forest pictures. I'm on my laptop now, so it is hard to tell, but something looks off about the exposure of the forest pictures. Again, it could be my crappy laptop, but probably people who vote will have crappy laptops too.

thing this afternoon. I am actually less interested in what the voters in general think, but what YOU guys think.

I find it very fascinating which pictures seem to runaway winners in the contests, and which (though phenomenal to me) get left behind.

The tomatoes are just getting a blush of pink but are "Still green"

I'll very carefully study the responses I'm lucky enough to get. But I think with the amount of views vs the amount of votes, I best go back to the
yard in the morning, or the files on another computer.

That's how I learn to see what you see.
Thank you very much, and,
I also thought about the fact that there are other colors, but I think if green predominates, and is what you take in first, it should count.

Guess that's a risk of interpretation we'll take.

edited to clarify something

That is truly an amazing photo......I feel as if I could hold a bowl of cereal up to the monitor and have breakfast.

10. the power lines aren't that big
It is just that there are places at the Tennessee River where those things obstruct good views, so I am sensitive to them.

You could easily edit them out. I would consider doing that. It doesn't materially affect the picture or anything--just removes a small distraction that shouldn't be there. Those cows have some really great expressions going on!

11. Thank you for digging that up.
I have another photo that is just water, and I can't find it. I wanted to see if it is green enough, it's one of my favorites.
Monet enriched the human experience, he was a human wonder of the world.

9. The first and fourth
remind me so much of Monet's later impressionist paintings. I love them. So either of those would be my choice.

I've been out photgraphing pond scum. It's green.

13. Nice you came in to comment. It is my first pre-contest poll and I realize
these are not really favorites, except maybe the water shots.
It's what I was after = feedback.
It's all fascinating, and has taken me back to some other tomato shots I did, and such. Also I found more things to crop in interesting ways since I realized nothing in my first batch is catching fire.

The single most fun thing come contest time is to scour files, edit and think, and go shoot.

It is also the time period where I learn the most.
Pond scum can be beautiful.

Thanks.

14. I voted for number 4.
I like the colours and the painterly, impressionistic quality.

The cow pic appealed to me as well. I took the liberty of editing out the power lines for you.

15.  It coulda been a contender - and thanks to you - now it is. This is the
second time your editing skills have given me a huge grin! Only thing missing now is your flying saucer.
We'll see what I decide to use, there is a bit too much other color in this one.
I'm surprised though how much difference it makes to have that little bit of stuff gone.

What software do you edit with?
Are you still in the States?
Merci beaucoup.

That looks really great now!! I just enthusiastically voted for it. This will sound strange but removing the power lines made a big difference even for those people who did not consciously notice them, I think. What a wonderful pastoral setting.

Everyone will probably be saying "Hmmm, I wonder where that is." I see cows all the time, even cows in nice settings. I can tell you that getting a picture of cows close up and moving is a feat. To get one looking at the others is amazing.

17. Glad I made you smile!
:D

I use photoshop. I started learning how to use it after the 2000 selection, long before I got into digital photography, in order to make anti-shrub photomontages. It was a way of dealing with my frustration and anger. You may have seen some of my stuff posted in GD over the past few years. My name used to be Tomeboy. :D

We've been back in der Schweiz for a little over a week. I'm just now getting over the jet-lag!

Je t'en prie!

18. I really love this one, too.
I voted for the second fish pic at first. I was going to edit the powerlines out for her, too, when I got here to work this morning where I have Photoshop. Looks really beautiful! It does remind me of paintings of pastoral scenes by Dutch artists.

As others have said, Monet. super pic.
And I like the cows minus the power lines.

but those green and yellow hues , then the blue at the bottom, and the fish...hmm hmm hmm.
rarely has any photo grabbed me as much as that one does.

Although I really don't like power lines that much, in this one they really didn't bother me.

Although it look pretty darn good once they're gone.
