What I Did Last Summer
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 09:27 PM by NashVegas
I found another passion to go along with shooting: kayaking. Got a boat in May and have been out in it almost every weekend. Lotsa rivers in Middle Tennessee area.

What I don't have yet - yet - are a lot of photos from this. We've rarely done the same river or stretch of river twice, and I'm not comfortable fiddling with the camera on a river I don't know where I want my set-ups.

But here're a few.

I chased a woman around for 4 miles trying to get the shot I wanted of this apple:

These next two are beautiful failures - next time, I'll have to take the canoe - and stand:

You saw this one elsewhere:

These are two of my favorites that were taken from a volunteer effort to build a take-out. Very "working man."

1. Your two failures simply take my breath away.
The others remind me of the few kayaking trips I have had a chance to be involved in, albeit they are not with a big group and not as involved as yours.
I can imagine now how you were chasing the photo of the apple, I completely "get it" why that is special, and a great shot to boot.

I'm seriously planning to get a used short kayak this winter because they'll be cheaper out of season, on craiglist probably, to heave onto the back of my truck this spring and summer to take to the nearby lake.

Thank you for sharing your adventure, seeing them photos made me happy especially the two "failures".
It was a trick calling them that, right?

2. Their Little Heads
Dissolved into the treeline in the background. I was as low in the water as they were.

Craig's list is a great way to get started. Check reviews of boats on paddling.net before you buy anything. For a lake boat, you'll want something at least 10-12 feet.

3. this really makes me want to get a kayak!
The things that have kept me sane while hubby fishes on the Tennessee River:

1. photography and chasing birds
2. looking for driftwood

I am now ready for 3. kayaking

And the Tennessee Buffalo isn't that far away!! (45 minute drive or so).

5. Quite lovely photographs. I've been contemplating picking up a kayak,
and these help to firm the decision up.

6. That apple shot you worked so hard for is excellent!
Well worth the effort (he says from the feet-elevated-onto-computer-desk comfort of his chair) :D

Seriously; that is a great shot, and I can see why you pursued her at length.

7. These are great.
I love the contrast between all the green and the brightly-colored kayaks. You should make a trip up here sometime - we've got some great kayaking rivers. Not that I've ever tried it since I'm too concerned for staying dry but from everything I've read...

8. I also love kayaking and taking my D300 out in it.................

for the first time made me nervous but I got over it. I just don't make any quick movements. I have a pelican case I keep it in when moving about and let the camera rest in my lap when positioning the kayak.

Great shots.
