1. Pretty amazing stuff. We are all getting more and more aware of what "sells".

For a theme that seems to have stumped us, we are rising to the occasion.

33. I was on a walk with a friend in Sarasota in an unsassuming neighborhood

and suddenly I spied it along side a house... I was so thrilled I had my camera, and though it's been a couple of years, it's been a favorite of mine worth digging up.

36. I fucked-up royally when I tried to get the threads up quickly...

I wound up updating a prior template of mine to reflect the newer contest rules, but didn't notice I'd grabbed an older template, back from the days when polls were posted in the lounge. (In fact, it might have been from the last contest ever held in the lounge.) I then transposed the numbers on the end-date, which was obviously supposed to be the 26th.

And now, of course, it's too late to edit.

Oh, well. It's probably a good thing that this will likely be my last hosting job.

38. Did your theme get you in a BLACK mood? It was a humorous mistake, IMO

We can't do without your hosting, and since your entries are often winners, that's just unavoidable.

But we can alleviate the burden of the seasonal hosting, I bet, if we talk about it.

I have not been here long enough to know why you and Blueraven are always co-hosting them.
It's too much for you guys, as I see it, and ways to share this can be found.

It's just that I am guessing that my opinions, frequently expressed elsewhere on this site, concerning the Democratic Circular Firing Squad found among DUers this year are probably going to get me tombstoned shortly. Can't host contests here if I'm banned from the site.

54. I don't think you need to worry about being banned.

I can tell you, as a former moderator, that anyone who's been here as long as you have, will be treated with the utmost respect. You might get a temporary suspension, but I doubt even that.

You would certainly get a warning first. You are a valuable member and this is always taken into consideration, always.

6. Can always post a link from GD

The main difference is that it can't get to the Greatest Page, and it can from GD.

That would mean far fewer people would vote and see the contest, unless there is a post in GD linking the contests in the lounge, and that post gets on the Greatest Page. Someone should probably do that, so that more people can see the photos and vote.

I don't have a problem with one month being in the lounge, but if it was every month I might.

As for the dates, it could be awhile before we know the results of the contest. :rofl:

By the way, you should have seen the rest of their yard!! It's not as black so I am not posting it but it really IS terrifying.

My daughter actually knows these people. I asked if they were weird or anything, and she said they are good Episcopalians, and just like to have "fun" with Halloween. :silly:

I do think the Lounge might appreciate this, Mira, even if you don't.

44. We had one years ago. He used to love playing in piles of leaves.

Precious would jump from leaf pile to leaf pile as we raked the front yard. This one time...

We went inside to grab something to drink and left Precious outside, happily doing his own thing. A few minutes later we heard someone outside hissing "Shoo!" and "Go away!". We looked out the front windows and could see Precious tormenting a neighbor - who happened to be afraid of black cats. We didn't know...

Precious would lunge at the neighbor as she made her way up the walk. Lunge, dance back. Lunge, dance back. It was almost like Precious knew why the woman was afraid of him.

We called for Precious to come to the house and he turned ever so obediently to make his way back to the door. The woman thanked us and started on her journey again when - suddenly - Precious turns and dashes back at the woman....(who screams bloody murder)

Tail jauntily raised, Precious turned away from the woman and strutted his way back home.

It's my favorite memory of Precious. This was about 30 years.

49. Ours hated dogs and would attack with great ferocity.

She shredded a poor young Rottweiler's nose, and severely traumatized a Golden Retriever. She only weighed 9 lbs.

is also called "Black Watch", I am looking at the packet of seeds in my hand as I type.
I grow them here.
Neighbors are fascinated by them, I do not think they see many hollyhocks,
but they do quite well in the South, it seems.

Also, I see there is a lot of "critter" lovers in here. (my kind of place) I also am a animal lover of all sizes and shapes, dogs, cats, I have no preference, I love them both equally. I am thinking of showing you all "Charlie" who is one of my favorite cats of all time... Not mine but nevah mine, he always greeted me like a long lost brother when I would go visit....

There are three pictures in particular I think are absolutely stunning, mah-velous and I predict will be the top dawg vote getters. Such a great theme. Slots filled up fast with only two spots remaining at the time of this post!
