Camera advice please. Kodak EasyShare M1063
I am a simple camera user and find all the extras on this camera confusing. I will read the instructions again and make crib notes.

I do not like the Kodak software and would like to remove it and proceed from there. I understand my HP has the capabilities and I don't need all the junk from Kodak. Shall I get rid if it? I am not very well versed on camera or computer use. I had no trouble with my old Sony digital and find this model so frustrating I don't use it.

I have the HP camera software and I have InfanView. Is that the HP camera software with a new name? I don't remember it on my old computer.

I used to be able to attach my old camera to the computer and Bingo...my pictures in "my Pictures". Now they seem everywhere.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

1. If you have the install disc for the software, try removing it

and see what happens. I don't know Windows so you might have to wait for someone that knows that OS.

I removed the Canon software and iPhoto took over the duties.

2. In my experience
Kodak software is not good, but Kodak cameras are good. However, my Kodak pocket camera got some pocket lint in the connector, and I couldn't directly transfer pictures after that. From then on I used a camera card to transfer photos to the computer. I found I liked that better. I bought a card reader for a few bucks. You just stick the card in it, and the card reader into the USB port, and on Windows it gives you several options. I usually just pick open the files, and then do copy and paste of the picture files in the card reader drive into whatever folder I want in "My Pictures." It's pretty simple.

I really liked the old HP software, but not the new quite as much. I am pretty sure that InfanView is not HP, but I could be wrong. I used InfanView now, but am looking for something else.

I hope this helps.

3. In most cases, Kodak's software should not be necessary.
If you are shooting JPG files and Windows can see the camera as a USB driver, then you should not need the Kodak software. Even better, get a $20 card reader and not attach the camera to the computer. (Card readers are sooooooo much faster and do not need special drivers.)

You need the ability to do two things: (1) copy the pics off the memory card, and (2) edit the pics.

Copying the files:
Using the Windows File Explorer to drag-n-drop the files will get the job done. I prefer some third party software, like Downloader Pro by BreezeSys.com ($30), that will rename the files and rotate the files during the transfer to the computer. Faststone's Viewer software (free) can do this, too.

Editing the files:
Lots of free software out there. Photoshop is the king of the mountain as far as pixel editors go. Paint Shop Pro is a great, cheaper option.
