Love the DOF of the first version and the content of the page on the right in the second version

Visual interest in the second, I agree, add the shallow DOF of the first one to it and you have the best of both images.

6. Version 2 for me
I think I like it better because more of it is in focus. The out of focus parts of the first one kind of overwhelm the eye for me.
