Question: Why Is This Group's Mission Soley About Cost Saving?
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 11:04 PM by cryingshame
This thread is intended to generate a friendly discussion.

I had wanted to see a Craft Group here on DU and am glad to find this group.

However, I am wondering why cost saving is so definitive in its stated mission.

I do rubberstamping, cloth dollmaking, collage art, cross stitch, beading etc. It'd be great to discuss these hobbies with fellow DU'ers.

But very little of my motive is cost saving.

When it comes to gift-making... my motive is less about saving money then it is to give something with meaning and loving care attached to it.

Granted, I ALSO do a lot of DIY projects and home improvement stuff... and that IS quite specifically to save money.

So wouldn't Crafts/Hobbies and DIY/Home Improvements be two different groups?

1. I think
The mission statement was framed that way to be more inclusive.

I did save a lot of money by giving painted gifts for Christmas but most of my painting projects are purely for my own pleasure and learning. The DIY projects I've done did save money but I did them more for the self-satisfaction.

4. Also, I think the admins like it
if we try to keep our groups linked to the cause, you know. Smile.
