Inipi? Humblecha? SunDance?
Have any of you participated in any of these ceremonies from the Lakota tradition?

I was listening to an interview with Robert Greygrass last night. At one point, he was asked about how we solve the problems of the environment, and the current technological advances toward this goal.

He said something like, "The answer isn't science, but science is in the answer."

I've been pondering it ever since.

He feels that whatever we do, we need to do within a larger context of seeing the plants and animals of the earth as our relatives and connecting spiritually to them.

I do remember him mentioning doing Sundance. (ON EDIT: It's mentioned here: http://www.greygrass.org/storyteller.htm .)

His Web site is www.greygrass.org .

2. Ho Metaquiasun
means "All My Relations", and the interconnectedness between all beings. As other faiths pray to saints for healing, guidance, etc, Natives often pray to the spirit of animals. The Black Tailed Deer is a healer; in a sweatlodge ceremony, the Deer came and literally kicked my husband in the ribs, putting them back into place (they had broken and weren't healing properly before then).

"in a sweatlodge ceremony, the Deer came and literally kicked my husband in the ribs,"

Now that's a POWERFUL healing experience!

I have some experience with Native American sweatlodge ceremony, I am sorry but I do not recall from which specific tradition. Possibly Lakota - that sort of rings a bell, but it was a while ago and stored in the back of my memory somewhere. I found them to be powerful rituals of purification, and still tap back into those experiences when I do purification visualizations.

6. Quiet Thunder: The Wisdom of Crazy Horse
I have been listening to the set of CD's while driving. He has a wonderful voice, and speaks to you like a wise uncle. I get so lost into his stories, it's almost dangerous to drive. I can actually see the warriors, I can hear them, he is an amazing teacher.

"JOSEPH MARSHALL III

Raised on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation and now a Lakota lineage holder, Joseph Marshall III is one of the few voices empowered to share the authentic wisdom teachings of his people with non-Native Americans. A riveting storyteller and the author of seven books, he is the recipient of the Wyoming Humanities Award."
