Adair defies threats and returns to Ulster
Saw this a couple of days ago on Danny Morrison's discussion board. Finally showed up on a news website.
From The Guardian:

Angelique Chrisafis, Ireland correspondent
Saturday February 26, 2005
The Guardian

He is Northern Ireland's most marked man, so high up the loyalist death list that he was spirited out of the province in an army helicopter last month in fear for his life. But the notorious Johnny "Mad Dog" Adair was back on home turf this week, sparking fears that a deadly paramilitary feud could be reignited.

The 1.6 metre (5ft 3in) bodybuilder - once one of the most savage and unpredictable terrorist leaders in the Ulster Defence Association - strolled through his old stronghold on the Shankill Road before posing for a photograph in front of a paramilitary mural. He seemed unfazed by vows from his former comrades that he would be shot on sight if he set foot back in Northern Ireland.

Adair's gang's reign of fear in Belfast in the early 1990s claimed the lives of dozens of Catholics. But, after a bloody loyalist feud, he is now the prime target.

His family and supporters have lived in exile in Bolton for two years, and Adair was secretly bundled out of Belfast to join them last month after completing a jail sentence for directing acts of terrorism.
