5. Actually, this is going to be interesting
It will give us a chance to see how the recent political turmoil affected public opinion. I suspect the anti-SF row may have peaked too soon and there may be a backlash of pro-SF voting, based on my reading of republican/nationalist sources. I won't be surprised if there is a further polarization--both SF and DUP gaining ground. While I don't see that as a good thing, it may be that the pot will have to boil before it cools down <sigh>.

6. Judging from the reports out of NI and the McCartney Sisters,....
if what they claim is true, there is a definite backlash that should go in SF's favor. The DUP should also benefit if the loyalist community is running to form. I doesn't look good for a devolved government if SF and DUP get the most votes.

I'm still glad the some kind of political process is taking place.

8. Not terribly surprising
We're a fierce bunch of nationalists in here, doncha know! :D

There are strong historical reasons why Irish-Americans tend to be passionately in support of Irish nationalism (one being that many of our ancestors were unwilling immigrants who hated being forced by economics or politics to leave their homes and families).

There is even a line in the Irish anthem how some of the soldiers of Erin "have come from a land beyond the wave."

10. Sinn Fein are a little too xenophobic for my tastes
One of my main problems with SF is that they are very anti-European.

If I was registered to vote in Northern Ireland I would be casting my vote these fine fellas. If you are wondering I am not registered to vote ( I moved country at the wrong time :eyes: ). Still wondering who I will support for the Dial elections ( I found out I can vote in Irish elections ).
