Farewell, my sweet Nellie 4/1992-4/2008

My dear sweet girl, I miss you horribly already, but I couldn't let you suffer any longer. I know you're now playing with Daddy Tigs & Lizzie. We've had a long, wonderful life together, from the time that I rescused you from the middle of the street at the age of 3 weeks until an hour ago when I kissed you goodbye for the last time. Please know that I will always love you & miss you, my most special of cats.

Play nice with all the other KOEB kitties, doggies, ferrets & so on, most especially Mouse. He's a boy & you like boy kitties. :)

3. What a beautiful cat, my friend, and I'm so terribly sorry!

I sure know what it's like, since my guys are all rescue and I take the older ones. I thought that I'd absolutely lucked out when I adopted the prettiest and most amazing cat when my uncle died and nobody would take his animals. I took his two kitties. They both were sweet, but I fell in love with the "friendly" one... And she was also quite young, only five, so hoped to have her for 20 years. But I lost her all too young, after "fighting the good fight." So my sympathies are with you, my friend. And my beloved Rhiannon will be there to welcome your sweet girl to the Rainbow Bridge... ;(

It's taken me a couple of days to even open up this thread again. I miss her so much. She was a stubborn little goat & a hell of a fighter. She had to be, since she received her first "death sentence" at the ripe old age of 3 weeks when I took her to the vet for the first time. "This kitten is much too young to have been taken from its mother!" yelled the vet. "But I found her in the middle of the street!" (true, & a very busy one; the fact that she wasn't a pancake by the time I showed up---I'd had this "come home now" message in my head all afternoon, so I ditched work early & found this little ball of fluff in the center lane--should count as a major miracle to St. Francis) "Well, if she's alive next Saturday, bring her in. But I doubt she'll make it." So, I went home & knowing that mommy cats feed the kittens often, I made sure she had something to eat everytime I ate. Which lead to a lifetime of this sense of entitlement; Friday evening was the first time in 16 years I didn't have a furry nose poking around in my food. :cry: She loved fried chicken (from Churches), hamburgers, & cantelope rind (don't ask; she was an absolute fiend over this stuff, to the point where I stopped buying it).

So thanks again, everyone. I'm hanging in there, but damn, this one hurt a lot.

I love the picture of Nellie. Be thankful for the love, joy, and happiness she brought you all these years. I had 3 dogs so I know what it's like to lose them so suddenly.

I know it's hard now, but in time you'll be all right. When you're ready to have another cat, you'll know. One will come your way when you're not expecting it.
