Countdown Newsletter -- 02/15/06: Breaking His Silence
------------------------------------------------------
Tonight on Countdown
------------------------------------------------------

Vice President Dick Cheney planned to break his silence Wednesday in his first televised interview about the Texas hunting accident in which he shot a 78-year-old lawyer. Cheney was to appear on Fox News Channel at 6 p.m. ET. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11361657/

John Dean joins Keith tonight.

Countdown w/ Keith Olbermann broadcasts LIVE at 8 pm et, and the count is never complete without you. Join us.

Abramoff Bragged of Ties to Rove. The disgraced lobbyist helped get Bush to meet the leader of Malaysia, a former associate says. When the government of Malaysia sought to repair its tarnished image in the U.S. by arranging a meeting between President Bush and its controversial prime minister in 2002, it followed the same strategy as many other well-heeled interests in Washington: It called on lobbyist Jack Abramoff for help. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-abramoff15feb15,0,5644434.story?coll=la-home-headlines

The conservative Roman Catholic group Opus Dei said Tuesday it had no intention of calling for a boycott of the upcoming film "The Da Vinci Code," but said it hopes the much-awaited film could still be changed so that "there aren't references that would hurt Catholics." http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/movies/1402AP_Opus_Da_Vinci_Code.html

In the spirit of true sportsmanship, many dog lovers leaving Madison Square Garden in New York at the end of the 130th Westminster Dog Show agreed that despite the fact that they didn't like bull terriers as a breed, the best dog definitely won. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11358593/

That's some of what we're planning for tonight's show.

Finally,
Fort Worth police were looking for a burglar who was nice enough to leave a birthday greeting - even if it was misspelled - while making off with cash stolen from a safe. Police said a manager at a Linens 'n Things store arrived Tuesday to find someone had knocked a hole in the roof, gotten into the ventilation system, cut open a safe and fled with some money. In the store's break room, near a partially eaten birthday cake, police found a message on a bulletin board: "Happy B-Day, From Ur Friendy Rooftop Boogler, 2-14-06." http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CONSIDERATE_BURGLAR?SITE=NWCN&TEMPLATE=STRANGEHEADS.html&SECTION=HOME
Profile: Criminal record, personable, can't spell burglar... or was that deliberate?

Calling Dick Tracy.
