Split the Smelt (May not be suitable for young or sensitive readers)
Edited on Tue Jan-12-10 05:07 PM by HereSince1628
On edit: I am told this is definitely NOT suitable for young readers.

Chicken’s not a bird but a rite of passage all boys know.
Smelt are not some little fish, but a grade school boy’s small toes.
And if there is a pocket knife, two boys and a hidden place to throw
They’ve got all the makings of a game of Split the Smelt, uh-oh!
Boys learn to volunteer for little, but first is when you want to throw
That pocket knife closest to your playmate's foot while missing all his toes.
If he’s not a coward he’ll stand and wait wherever that blade may go.
And when he's bravely stood his ground (pray, that blood has not begun to flow),
There are no cries of chicken, but derision of an awfully lousy throw.
