Well 10 days until my surgery
I know that I am late to the party here, in fact in all my time here at DU I didn't know that there were groups. I was too busy in GD or the lounge.

So anyway in 10 days I will be having a Lap-Band put in, I can tell you that I am excited for this phase of my life, but I can tell you that I am TIRED of only drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast for my food source. I was glad to learn that I could expand my choices to include Glucerna or Slim Fast Optima, basically because I can get them in Strawberry because I really don't like Chocolate that much. So I just wanted to share with everyone.

1. Good luck!
Let us know how you're doing. Slim Fast also has a coffee flavor -- I forget if it has chocolate in it, though.

When I was on a liquid diet, I remember others on a message board I went to advised us to think of the "shakes" as medicine that we were taking for our health rather than food. I guess then you don't expect it to actually taste good. :)

2. best wishes to you mduffy!
I hope your surgery is uneventful and your recovery a speedy one. Please let us know how you're doing.
I drink Revival Soy shakes, 20g of protein per drink. They taste good and don't have that awful smell that a lot of protein shakes have. Check them out here http://www.revivalsoy.com
I buy the vanilla and make smoothies with added fruit and ice. frozen fruit works well too.
They have variety packs too, that way you can try many flavours and decide which ones you like the best.
I spent SO much money on protein stuff in the beginning. I foolishly bought shake mixes and drinks before surgery thinking I'd get ahead of the game. My tastes changed and the shakes I 'thought' I liked were almost repulsive to me after surgery, go figure!

Anyway, sorry to ramble :)
best of luck to you! I hope it all goes well.

3. Welcome to the forum, mduffy31!
I'm so glad you found us over here!! I know you must be excited about your surgery and a bit nervous as well. Several of the folks here have had surgery and can help you. I drink Atkins Shakes very often when I am hungry and don't want to actually eat anything. They are high-protein and come in different flavors including Strawberry. I don't know if you can have high-protein drinks, but they are delicious!

Please keep us posted on how your surgery and your weight loss goes, ok? :hi:

8. hey mduffy,
I hope you're having a better day today. Each day should get easier. If your pain meds aren't doing what they are supposed to do, be sure to let the Dr know so he/she can prescribe something else for you.
Hang in there, you've taken a giant step towards better health. :toast: and a gentle

9. I'm so glad you checked in, and let us know how you are doing...
aA is right, and please listen to her advice-- if you are in pain, and your medication is not working for you, please don't hesitate to let your Dr. know, so you can get something to help you right now. You've got enough to deal with now, and that shouldn't be one of the issues pressing on you right now...

10. Thanks diva
I am a nurse for a living so I have knowledge of some pain meds that they general public knows about like the Oxydose that I am on. I hate the taste of liquid meds, and this stuff is so highly concentrated that I can get good relief with just 0.5cc of liquid. That really helps because you can also just put it under your tongue and it absorbs. Everything just one day at a time.
