Don't you just love the new America?
A few days ago I boxed up a photography goodie bag for a friend in Israel, nothing too dangerous unless you could use a changing bag as a WMD. Maybe the mini tripod could be considered Bushes famous "aluminum tubes". My guess it was the 1970's Yashica camera strap, that thing just screams radical.

Well to shorten the story a bit a postal inspector shows up at my door with the package in hand and say, "Due to heightened security you have to present this package in person at the post office". See right down the street is a mailbox store and the post office is across town.

I say, "OK aren't you a person I can give it to?" he says, "No you have to go in person and present it."

Now in my mind I envision a SWAT team behind the bushes watching my every move, I see a tactical force laying in wait at the Post Office, and I see the lady in line in front of me waiting for me to make my move only to turn on me and whip out a HK 9mm and order me to "FREEZE!"

Did I mention I paid 27 dollars already? Oh well, maybe I SHOULD be watching more Fox News to see just how afraid I really should be. If you guys don't here from me after I return from the Post Office my new mailing address will be GITMO, just send my cameras and film there.

2. I hate getting hassled by border patrol 100 miles INSIDE the US border!
...on I-87, at the 100mi marker. :grr:

4. Please explain.
Where or how can the border patrol do this?

I live in NYC, and I spend almost every day within 100 miles of our border. If they can hassle people then a hell of a lot of us are at risk of that kind of harassment.

5. I'm sure it's only the southern border
that sees this. I don't think they concentrate much on the white people crossing in from Canada like they do the brown people crossing in from Mexico.
Most of the checkpoints are way past the cities where you cross.

6. I-87 (north of Albany)
They have a checkpoint (that can be bypassed via US-9). A big waste of resources, if you ask me...

3. Well
If I were a postal worker I'd be a bit more worried about security too. It's not like Bush caught the Anthrax terrorist or anything.
