Question for DU'rs about Bush rewriting legislation. Would he do this
knowing he or the Republicans might lose the presidency next election? He has amended laws now nearly 700 times from what I understand, giving him 'executive power' to amend legislation in cases he feels is necessary.

I'm thinking there is no way in hell this would be done if they believed at all that they were leaving or losing office. If this were the case, a Democrat would now have this power and I don't think they would risk it.

Is there something going on here? How could he be so confident that this wouldn't be passed on to a Dem? Am I being paranoid? I have a suspicion that something is bigger is happening. Help me out here?

Opinions?

1. My theory...
I think it has something to do with the reason Hillary Clinton is being given a fundraiser by Rupert Murdoch.

Something very weird is going on in our country. You are not in any sense of the word being paranoid. We all should be freaked out when Rupert "Let me fry your brain with conservatism" Murdoch holds a fundraiser for her. If that doesn't convince anyone there is something really fucked up going on what will?

5. Rupert goes with strength. He has his finger in the wind, and he knows
what way the wind is blowing. It's too easy for him to throw some cash at a sure winner. That way he looks smarter than the average asshole. And assholes who want to be like him see what he is doing, and follow his lead.

Keep in mind, this is a SENATE fundraiser. That's all it is.

But if things keep up, nothing would surprise me. Faux Noose could end up being the bluest of blue stations, pumping out gushing, fawning Democratic propaganda that would offend even the most diehard Democrat. You know, the ones who go for truth as opposed to truthiness!

Murdoch doesn't give a shit about politics. He cares about two things: money and power. And he'd sell his grandma on the street if the price was right. He sees an opportunity to increase his money and power, and he's investing in it.

2. They don't plan on loosing the presidency or the next election
If they successfully steal the 06 election, they can then call themselves supreme and dissolve the government as we think we know it.
The bu$h regime and the republicans in congress have little or no regard for the history of this nation.

3. They're hoping that the Teeming Millions don't give a damn
It's harder to worry about signing statements and how they affect legislation when you've lost your health insurance at work, your youngest daughter needs an appendectomy, and the finance company is about to repo your only car. Thanks, Nero.

6. "Let Them Hate Us, As Long as They Fear Us"
That line is generally attributed to Caligula.
