Where are all the Mexican protesters?
I thought there would be bigger outrage about Bush sending troops to the border. What were they protesting orinally a couple of weeks ago? Did I miss something?

1. When the wholesale slaughter of their fellow countrymen begins...
along the border, I would imagine that you will see some response.

3. Wholesale slaughter?
Do you really imagine we're going to open fire with machine guns and artillery barrages on the border? I'm not pleased with the idea of sending the Guard to the border, but Jesus -- isn't "wholesale slaughter" really way over the top?

4. I hope you're right, and I am being over the top..
but after all, this administration has a history of being "over the top".

Perhaps it's a Chimp bluff again.

5. Excuse the snark
I'm having an irritating day. My post was as over the top as yours, and rude to boot. Sorry.

6. Not a problem....
as I said, I hope and pray I was out of line in that assessment.

2. They're on the Same Side
Why?

Because they know that this is just a political ploy on Bush's part to get a deal for his 'amnesty' and 'guest peon' program.

The 'protesters' and Bush and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce want pretty much the same things -- the illegals want to come and take all the jobs we don't want to do and the members of the Chamber want to expand those jobs we won't do to just about every job.

Talking about sending the National Guard "temporarily" to the border is just a political trick. The Guard is stretched thin and is worn out from Iraq deployments ... and Bush's solution to every difficult probem is 'send in the troops' ...

... but I'm not fooled. The Mexican elite plutocracy still wants the poor, potential troublemakers out of their country so they can continue their corrupt regime, and the transnational corporations want to turn the U.S. into a low-wage nation.

That's why.

7. Obviously you have missed quite a bit
The protesters were not all "Mexicans," they were also Mexican Americans and Latinos from many countries, and they were protesting the Sensenbrenner bill, which they feared would negatively impact their families and friends.

And the same groups are in the process of arousing opposition to BushCo.'s latest political ploy, the militarization of the border.

Immigrant Supporters To Counter Bush Speech
By Darryl Fears
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, May 15, 2006; Page A01

Bush's plan to dispatch National Guard troops to the Mexican border was not greeted well by the immigrant coalition, which plans a day of civil action Wednesday, with demonstrations at the White House and on Capitol Hill, and the launch of a nationwide voter registration campaign at churches and nonprofit organizations that hopes to sign up a million new voters among legal residents.

"We expect a large turnout of people from all over the country," Juan Carlos Ruiz, general coordinator for the National Capital Immigration Coalition, said over the weekend. He presaged the message of the Spanish-radio address, saying, "Militarizing the border is not a solution to the problem. We believe that militarizing the border is a propaganda tool. We need comprehensive immigration reform."

8. They were also frriends, family members, union members
and even political parties.

In other words, they were workers and their families.
