How did Randi Rhodes get started in Radio?? Does anyone know?

1. Yes, she told the story one day. She was looking thru the

want ads for the secretarial job and saw this job for radio announcer (I think this was her lst job which was a DJ. She applied and convinced them (are you surprised?) that she could do it. I think she was only 21. She then went on the political talk show host.

4. yes, and she was working for peanuts and commuting like 60 miles

one way for an hour or two of airtime. I may have the figures wrong, but that's the essence.

I've heard her tell the story too, I just don't remember the details.

Armed Forces Radio...and she was a pioneer...back when women were first allowed into the active military.

5. ? She was part of ground crew support in the AF according to her own

account. One of the folks who did maintenance on planes. Didn't get into radio until after she left the service.

Where do you get that she started out on armed forces radio? Any link to that info?

When AAR came on, the station came out with a Press Release with the bios of the personalities, and I recall seeing the AFRTS reference in there. Sorry, the station doesn't have a website and I called the station manager (an acquantance of mine) to see if he can get me a copy of that release. He hasn't called me back.

I hadn't heard of Randi until the Elian Gonzalez fiasco when she was on WIOD (or was it WINZ??) and held a going away party for him on the air.

Randi did serve in the military and the manager, who barely knows who she is, remembered the Press Release and said that's what he came away with, too. I asked where the release came from and he said he recalled it coming from the network. Again, this is what I was told...and if you can find her bio and clear the issue, please do so. None of this matters to me. I'm more concerned about what she says today than what she did yesterday.
